Masterwork Melodia
Greetings! This is where you'll find everything you'll ever need to prepare for your work with Melodia.
Our rehearsal time together will only be one hour per week. That time will be best spent by singing together and learning how to listen to each other, with the main goal being the creation of a seamless, beautifully-blended, advanced ensemble.
Obviously, you will need to do all the "grunt" work yourself, on your own, at home.
Audio recordings of every rehearsal will be posted here on Wednesday night, and will be posted with the latest meeting at the top. These will be excellent tools to rehearse with, and will also keep absent members up to date.
This is a SELECT, advanced ensemble, designed to showcase the Best of the Best within the Masterwork Chorus. You worked hard to get here. And I will confess to agonizing over the choices -- there are many other ladies in the chorus who wish they were here. Please -- take your obligation seriously, do your homework, and do it with pride. Welcome to Melodia!

Soundfiles
These mp3s are a terrific learning tool that will guide you towards accuracy with both counting and pitches. (There are no dynamics and no breathing indications other than the rests that are already written in.)
Three-part songs will use these instruments:
Part 1 - flute (sorry about the weird vibrato that can get annoying...)
Part 2 - oboe
Part 3 - clarinet
Four-part songs will use the above instruments plus:
Part 4 - bassoon
In each track you'll hear a single part louder than all the others -- it's important for you to get accustomed to what the other parts are doing, and understand how those parts may actually assist you with your own. Practice on your assigned part, but also, as time allows, try the other parts. It's fun and will increase your sight-reading ability exponentially!
We won't need sound files on each song, but I will definitely post the more difficult stuff.

Echo Song -- starting pitches are given first, in tempo -- echo chorus is heard in the background
|
A-Tisket, A-Tasket -- this is at or near performance tempo, with a heavy bass line to assist you with the syncopation.
|
Here Comes the Sun -- TRANSPOSED down to C -- You'll hear 4 prep counts played on the piano. Remember -- Parts 2 and 3 SWITCH with each other.
|
Cape Breton -- ONLY the 4 part section at m. 50 -- sorry, starting pitches are not provided, but you should have no trouble jumping right in...
|
Dance on My Heart -- 3 parts -- charming little ditty! Piano intro gives tempo and starting pitches.
|
Earth Song -- 4 parts -- VERY dissonant, but deliciously so! Recording starts with 4 prep beats -- 3 beats on your starting pitch, then the 4th beat of silence for your breathing.
My apologies to Part 3 -- the opening pitches and the first measure are incorrect. The second measure will give you the correct pitch, and from there everything is accurate.
Suscepit Israel -- 3 parts -- very chromatic song (requested by Maestro Chris). Recording starts with 3 prep beats -- you'll hear 1-&-2-&-3 on B (song is in B-minor) followed by half a beat of silence, then Part 1 enters.
|
|
Mister Sandman -- 4 parts
|
Curated YouTubes
Follow along with these performances -- also please note the phrasing, expression, dynamics, and other nuances...
