(New) Manx Arrangements
Following the publication of my second book of Manx arrangements (Tailless Tunes 2) for mountain dulcimer, I promised I would continue to share other Manx tunes here on my website.
The first of these arrangements is linked below. It is a lullaby written by a talented, currently-working Manx musician, Sharon Christian. One of Sharon's musical gifts is her ability to write modern melodies in the ancient, traditional style. So great is this gift that this tune ("Arrane Cadlee") recently won First Prize in the Pan-Celtic festival's "New song in traditional mode" competition.
I am very grateful to Sharon for kindly giving me permission to arrange her beautiful tune, and allowing me to share it with my fans here in America and around the world.
Sharon's tune did not specify any chords, so I was free to make my own choices. To that end, I've also arranged it in three slightly different ways:
1. E-minor with capo on 1st fret.
2. E-minor with no capo -- this version works beautifully if you have large hands or a short VSL instrument (like the McSpadden Ginger).
3. B-minor with capo on 4th fret -- this version allows for all those delicious chords on a standard VSL dulcimer, played up higher on the fretboard.
The links below will take you to all three tab versions (complete with standard notation and chords), along with a page of lyrics, both in Manx Gaelic and English.
Also below are links to two MP3 files of Yours Truly playing a B-minor variation (with capo on the 4th fret) on my Bear Meadow Standard Hourglass. and the E-minor version (without a capo) on my McSpadden Ginger.
I hope you enjoy this tune, and I look forward to adding more titles to this list from time to time.
Thank you also for respecting my copyrighted arrangements.
