Melodies of St. Kilda (2022)
Traditional Scottish melodies
as remembered by Trevor Morrison
Trevor Morrison, a frail resident of a care home in Edinburgh, Scotland, sits down at the out-of-tune piano in the dining room and begins playing a few haunting songs that no one's ever heard before. Turns out he'd learned them 60 years earlier from his piano teacher who had once lived on St. Kilda. He asks Stuart McKenzie, a local IT consultant who is part of a volunteer organization that helps elderly citizens navigate their way through a computer, "Can these things record music?" Thus begins an amazing series of events that have led from Trevor's piano to Carol's dulcimer. All the details of this incredible "six-degrees-of-separation" tale are laid out in this newest book.

All of Trevor's "lost" songs have been thoughtfully arranged in this book, which includes a stand-alone professionally-produced CD of all these haunting, nostalgic melodies, recorded on Carol's dulcimer with ambient sounds of ocean waves, seagulls, wind, and rain running in the background throughout the entire CD. It truly is an immersive experience!
Each arrangement has been done on a standard dulcimer, tuned DAD (one song in DF#A), and optional 1+ and 8+ frets. A capo is required for three of the songs.
Intermediate players (and up) will have no trouble playing these arrangements, but for the occasional "tricky bits" that occur here and there, Carol has also posted some instructional videos on this page:

The book and CD are available as a "hard-copy" combo or a digital combo. The CD is available separately, either hard copy or digital. Prices are below.
