Welcome to Walker's Virtual Workshops!
Welcome to Walker's Virtual Workshops!
Here are five of Carol Walker's most popular workshops being offered during the month of September:
Babysteps to Fingerpicking -- Novice / Intermediate (Level 2-3)
As a new player back in the early days of my dulcimer exploration, I started looking for other ways to play the instrument beyond the strumming methods I'd been learning. The answer was to put down the pick and start using my fingers. We'll practice a few different methods of fingerpicking, and apply these techniques to songs you already know. (DAD tuning.)
The Expressive Dulcimer -- Intermediate / Advanced (Level 3-4-5)
This workshop will give you a fresh approach that will bring your playing to a new level. We'll discuss the various mechanics that will improve your right- and left-hand technique, but we'll also explore how to express the feelings that the music brings to you while you play. People will exclaim, "Wow! I never knew a dulcimer could sound like that!" (DAD tuning; 1+ fret needed; capo required.)
Tailless Tunes - Traditional Manx Music of the Isle of Man - Intermediate (Level 4-5)
We'll go on a musical journey to the Isle of Man, a tiny island located in the Irish Sea, where we'll explore an untapped source of this beautiful Celtic music, including lively jigs and reels, soothing lullabies, and haunting ballads. I'll share many anecdotes related to these songs, gathered during my two visits to the Island. Please visit the "Manxellaneous" section of my website for more in-depth information about the Isle of Man. (1+ fret needed for some pieces; capo required; we will retune from DAD to GGD.)
Easy-Peasy Chords -- Novice (Level 2-3)
Using the time-honored "Power Chord" system, you'll discover how to play almost any chord you'll ever need in several different keys. These chords will open all kinds of doors for you, giving you confidence and flexibility in any setting, including jams and singalongs. No retuning or capo required! (DAD tuning.)
Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite #1 -- Advanced (Level 5)
This iconic classical piece composed over 300 years ago has become well known today, thanks to cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Translating Bach's music to a 3-string diatonic folk instrument has its challenges, but for the advanced player, this will be a worthwhile endeavor. We'll take apart this abridged arrangement, section by section, and put it back together again. (DAD tuning; 1+ fret is needed, but I'll show you a work-around if you don't have one.)

Here's the nitty-gritty:
Each workshop is $15 (USD) and will run a total of 90 minutes -- 60 minutes of solid instruction, and 30 minutes for questions and other interaction.
A minimum of 6 people would be appreciated. The maximum is 99, so no worries about getting locked out!
If your plans change and you must cancel your workshop, I'll happily offer a refund, but instead please allow me to credit your payment towards a future workshop of your choice.
The workshops available during the month of September are listed below. Please pick the one(s) you're interested in, and the date(s), and click the Paypal button(s) to arrange for payment. You'll quickly receive a personal "thank you" from me to confirm your registration.
If possible, please register at least 4-5 days ahead of time. You will receive your Zoom invitation and workshop PDFs approximately three days prior to the workshop. (I will welcome last-minute registrants and will do my best to accommodate you with invitations and PDFs.)
